Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim accepted an apology from former Prime Minister Najib Razak for the 1MDB scandal, calling it an example of good leadership.

“When someone apologises, don’t tell me I should reject it? What sort of behaviour is this? I am the prime minister, I am the father of the nation.” says Anwar.

Anwar criticized those who opposed his acceptance, calling them slow-witted. He states that the decision on Najib's pardon lies with the Pardons Board and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Najib issued the apology, asserting he was misled by Jho Low, and expressed regret that the scandal happened during his term.
